The short explanation of this alert was:
Victory!! Thanks to your rapid response and countless calls, emails, and letters of opposition from a coalition of more than 100 local, state and national environmental groups, AB 1570 has been abandoned. The bill was originally drafted to improve social services for veterans, but was amended this week to provide a special legislative extension to an existing coastal development permit for Poseidon Resources’ Carlsbad Desalination Project. The bill could have eroded the California Coastal Commission’s ability to protect the health of California’s precious coastal environment.
This was an amazing example of the solidarity of the Surfrider Foundation membership, our partners in the environmental community, and all Californians, to ensure nobody is exempt from the laws to protect our coast and ocean. Thank you for being a part of this effort.
