The short explanation of this alert was:

Send a letter to uphold critical regulations in the National Forest Management Act

For years, the Bush administration has been trying to fundamentally change the way our nation's National Forests are managed. So far, we've managed to stop them, but a new proposal by the Administration could be even more damaging to our forests than ever, and it could become final soon. The new proposal would:

-increase logging, mining, and oil and gas development

-remove protections for wildlife and drinking water

-provide less opportunity for citizen input on how these public lands will be managed.

This latest attempt by the administration to undermine forest protections involves weakening regulations under the law that guides the management for all national forests - the National Forest Management Act (NFMA).

We need to let the Administration know that these new regulations threaten countless wildlife species and their habitat, important watersheds providing clean drinking water, and the ecological balance of these pristine national forests.

Please sign the letter below and tell the Forest Service to protect our pristine national forests. We encourage you to include your own personal comments - your emails are much more effective when you take the time to add your own thoughts.

Remember - no one knows better than you why you care about your national forests.

Please send your letter now, as October 15th will be the last day to submit your comments.
