The short explanation of this alert was:
New York state's Returnable Container Act, also known as the "Bottle Bill", has prompted 90 billion bottles to be returned and recycled since 1982. Unfortunately, the law only applies to carbonated beverages and not to bottled waters, teas, juices, sports drinks, and coffee drinks which have exploded in popularity in recent years. These non-deposit containers are fouling our oceans, waves, and beaches so it is time to update the 25 year old law. The Bigger Better Bottle Bill will add the returnable deposit to virtually all these other beverages and send the unclaimed deposit money to a state environmental fund.
