Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Inactive - Center for Biological Diversity - Biodiversity Activist. The short explanation of this alert was: Your help is needed to protect one of the last free-flowing rivers in southern California from death by a thousand cuts: filling, channelization, and concreting by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on behalf of developers. Please write federal elected officials in California and ask them to tell the Corps to review the harmful cumulative effects of permits they issue for development along the river and to stop the destruction. The Santa Clara River is one of the last free-flowing rivers in southern California and supports a rich assortment of natural and cultural values. Just north of Los Angeles, the river is one of the last refuges for dozens of imperiled species and is a linchpin wildlife linkage between southern and central California. It hosts diverse cultural sites for three Native American tribes, who rely on these sites to maintain their tribal culture and revitalization. It is also a drinking water source for numerous local communities. Despite the river’s indisputable value, it is gravely threatened by multiple development projects – many of which are located in the floodplain, putting people and property at risk.
