Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. The short explanation of this alert was: Wespac is at it again! Violating the law by attempting to expand fishing in the proposed NWHI sanctuary. Wespac has made yet another reckless attempt to propose fishing regulations that violate the law and the goals of the proposed NWHI Sanctuary. Wespac has resurrected ILLEGAL fishing regulations, that were rejected by their oversight agency, the National Ocean Service (NOS). These new fishing regulations, once again, propose to illegally increase commercial fishing, remove caps on recreational fishing and open-up closed areas in the NWHI -- including U.S. Fish and wildlife Refuge waters and closed Reserve waters -- to fishing. Wespac is holding 8 hearings throughout Hawai'i to promote their version of fishing regulations for the proposed NWHI sanctuary. Your help is needed to tell Wespac that the public will not tolerate their planned destruction of the fragile NWHI ecosystem. If possible, please attend one of the following hearings on their sham proposal and show your support for full protection of the NWHI: March 2, Thursday 6-9 p.m. at the Maui Beach Hotel, 170 Kaahumanu Ave. March 3, Friday 6-9 p.m. at the Helene Social Hall in Hana March 6, Monday 6-9 p.m. at UH-Hilo Campus Center, 200 W.
