The short explanation of this alert was:
More than a thousand large sea turtles are being trapped and drowned in shrimp trawls each year because the openings for devices designed to allow these animals to escape from the nets are too small. The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has been slow to respond to this crisis. Please respond to this alert and send the agency a message that quick action is needed to end this tragedy.
