The short explanation of this alert was:
Thanks to the leadership of Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Joseph Biden (D-DE), the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will soon hold (as early as tomorrow) a vote on the historic "Women's Rights Treaty." The treaty, known as the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1979 and has been ratified by 170 countries. CEDAW is one of the most widely accepted international women's rights treaties. Despite this overwhelming support, the U.S. remains one of 21 countries that have not ratified this important treaty! Please contact your Senator who serves on the Foreign Relations Committee and urge them to ratify the "Women's Rights Treaty."
