Despite her other good works, Alicia Keys is supporting Dirty Gold by appearing in this World Gold Council advertising campaign. | Grammy Award-winning Alicia Keys is recognized as an artist who has used her star-power to promote human rights and social justice throughout the world. She has publicly stated her commitments to bettering the lives of Africa's poorest people.
Why, then, is Ms. Keys associating herself with one of the world’s dirtiest industries?
This past summer, Alicia Keys was featured in Vogue and Vanity Fair as part of a new jewelry advertising campaign launched by the mining industry to boost gold consumption. Keys may not know the truth about gold mining, and its direct connection to conflict, human rights abuses and severe environmental problems in Africa and elsewhere. We think that if she knew the truth, Alicia Keys wouldn't choose to associate herself with an industry that has failed to face up to the serious human rights and environmental problems associated with modern day gold mining.
Please take action. Tell Alicia Keys to join us in ending dirty mining practices that harm communities, workers, and the environment.
Thank you, Payal Sampat/Keith Slack Co-directors No Dirty Gold Campaign
