Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Students for a Free Tibet's Online Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was: On March 14th, dozens of Tibetan students in Machu County in eastern Tibet took part in a protest for Tibetan independence. They were joined by 500 Tibetans from the area. 40 protesters were detained and are reportedly still being held by Chinese police. This courageous demonstration took place in spite of a massive security crackdown by Chinese armed forces in Tibet. In early March, Chinese authorities flooded Tibet with troops and launched a 'Strike Hard' campaign, rounding up and interrogating hundreds of Tibetans in an effort to silence any protest marking the anniversaries of the 1959 and 2008 uprisings in Tibet. Send a letter to Chinese President Hu Jintao calling on him to immediately stop the crackdown in Tibet and release all those detained in this recent wave of arrests. Your letter will also be sent to China's newly appointed Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Li Baodong. If you would like to view details on this alert, please visit here. |
