The short explanation of this alert was:

Your comments needed to tell the Forest Service that gold mining should not come at the expense of the Alaskan environment.

Slate Cove of Berners Bay. Credit: SEACCCoeur Alaska, an Idaho-based multinational mining company, wants to build a sprawling mining complex in and around Berners Bay near Juneau, Alaska.  In doing so, it is pushing a new, "cheaper" operational design that may save it money, but will threaten the peace, beauty, and wildlife of the bay.  The Forest Service recently released a draft supplemental environmental impact statement that analyzes the proposal – and is accepting public comments.

Please send or amend the letter below and tell the Forest Service that Coeur's plan maximizes temporary economic benefits for an Idaho-based multinational corporation at the expense of the public's interest in safeguarding the immense ecological, cultural, and recreational values of Berners Bay for use by present and future generations.  Please act today!
