Urge Your Member of Congress to Support Clean Energy Economy Job Growth

America's clean energy economy is poised for explosive growth. In fact, jobs that make up the clean energy economy – researchers, business owners, electricians, teachers, engineers, mechanics, paralegals, etc. – grew nearly two and half times faster than U.S. jobs overall between 1998 and 2007. These are the jobs driving economic growth and environmental sustainability at a time when America needs both.

But federal leaders must do more for this critical sector to skyrocket. With the unemployment rate above 9% and layoffs headlining every other day, American’s can’t afford to wait. Tell your Congressman to support a nation-wide clean energy economy plan that will help spur job creation, cut our dependence on foreign oil and enhance national security, and curb global warming. It’s time to act.

The U.S. clean energy economy is poised for explosive growth. In fact, jobs in the clean energy economy - blue and white collar, technical and clerical - grew at nearly two and half times the rate of U.S. jobs overall between 1998 and 2007, according to a report recently release by the Pew Charitable Trusts (http://www.pewtrusts.org/cleanenergyeconomy). These are the jobs driving economic growth and environmental sustainability at a time when America needs both.

Across the country, state lawmakers have been implementing and pursing policies to capitalize on the clean energy economy, from renewable portfolio and energy efficiency standards to financial incentives for public - and private - section innovation and investment. Meanwhile, federal action has lagged.

To realize the clean energy economy's full potential, federal leaders must do more. The nation needs a comprehensive, economy-wide energy plan, a market-based system that will significantly reduce emissions that cause global warming and derive more of America's energy supply from clean, renewable sources.  Strong federal policies will accelerate the growth of this economy sector by generating jobs and businesses that develop clean energy and increase energy efficiency.

It's time to act. With the unemployment rate above 9% and layoffs headlining every other day, American's can't afford to wait. I urge you to support a nation-wide clean energy economy plan that will help quickly spur job creation, enhance energy independence and national security, and curb global warming.
