In the coming days, world leaders will gather in Copenhagen, Denmark to negotiate a new global climate agreement.
This meeting presents an opportunity for the United States to lead the world in coalescing around a fair, ambitious and binding climate agreement that confronts the causes of global warming, manages existing effects of climate change, and helps developing countries benefit from clean energy technologies.
The United States has a lot to gain in Copenhagen. Currently, European countries generate a much greater share of their electricity than we do from clean, alternative sources, while China is on track to become the world's leading maker of wind turbines by the end of this year.
Creating an agreement that reduces global warming pollution worldwide will give the United States additional incentive to shift to a clean energy economy - relying less on foreign oil and more upon homegrown wind and solar that will generate American jobs.
Please join us today to make America a global clean energy leader again. Send a letter to President Obama asking him to be a leader in bringing the world together in support of a fair, ambitious and binding climate change agreement in Copenhagen.
We will be in Copenhagen following what happens. If you'd like the minute-by-minute, read COPservations starting December 10, 2009.
