The short explanation of this alert was:
Tell your representatives at the State Lands Commission and Coastal Commission that you are opposed to a privately owned company exploiting our natural resources to build an environmentally destructive and unnecessary ocean desalination facility in Carlsbad, California.
This project would be the largest and most damaging ocean desalination facility in the western hemisphere and should not move forward if we want to improve the health of our coastal areas and ocean water quality. Though there is never a good reason to destroy public coastal property, this project is especially threatening because it will cause the destruction of marine life and ecosystems of one of Southern California’s last remaining coastal lagoons, and exacerbate global warming. The dramatic impacts it will have on the coast and ocean will last for generations. Read the “Tell Me More” section below for more details.
There are right and wrong ways to design ocean desalination facilities – and this one is the worst. Tell your representatives on these Commissions that we insist on nothing less than the best possible protection of our coast and ocean.
