The short explanation of this alert was:

Did you know that everyday products like computers and cell phones contribute to one of the world’s most polluting activities? That’s right—gold mining. Most high-tech products use gold contacts to connect chips to circuit boards. Gold mining generates massive amounts of waste, uses cyanide and other deadly chemicals, and is linked with human rights abuses and the displacement of native peoples from their homelands.  If you believe that items you buy and use should be produced in a safe and responsible manner, ask the companies that make computers and microprocessors to switch to cleaner practices.

Send an email to Intel®  – whose microchips are used most American computers – and encourage them to use only metals that were produced using environmentally responsible methods.
