The short explanation of this alert was:

In his first budget proposal, Governor Spitzer earmarked revenues generated by a Bigger Better Bottle deposit law for New York’s Environmental Protection Fund. The Fund supports everything from landfill closures to Hudson River restoration.

A Bigger Better Bottle deposit law would expand New York’s most successful litter prevention and recycling program to include bottles for water and juice and also send unclaimed deposits to the Environmental Protection Fund—NOT back to the big bottlers and beverage giants. This could add more than $100 million to the Fund, every year.  However, for this to happen we need the State Legislature to keep the Governor’s proposal in the state budget.

Please contact your legislator and tell them that you support the Bigger Better Bottle Bill as part of the state budget.
