The short explanation of this alert was:

Urge Congress to Oppose Budget Cuts to Clean Energy Funding in the Farm Bill.

The Bush administration has proposed virtually eliminating funding for innovative new clean energy programs created in the 2002 Farm Bill. These merit-based programs help farmers, ranchers and rural small businesses purchase renewable energy systems (e.g., wind turbines, solar electric panels and biomass energy generation equipment) and to make energy efficiency improvements to their homes and businesses. Clean energy programs are important steps towards achieving domestic energy security while offering new, environmentally-friendly sources of income and economic development, especially in rural areas.

Please urge your U.S. Representative and Senators to protect funding for the Farm Bill’s clean energy provisions. Senior members of Congress are threatening to slash these and other programs in the 2004 budget. Members need to hear from their constituents that these programs are important for rural Americans, the nation’s energy future, and the environment.
