The short explanation of this alert was:

Send a letter from your organization to members of the House Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee on Agriculture; Urge them to Oppose Budget Cuts to Clean Energy Funding in the Farm Bill.

The Bush administration has proposed virtually eliminating funding for innovative new clean energy programs created in the 2002 Farm Bill. These merit-based programs help farmers, ranchers and rural small businesses purchase renewable energy systems (e.g., wind turbines, solar electric panels and biomass energy generation equipment) and to make energy efficiency improvements to their homes and businesses.  The Agriculture subcomittee of the Appropriations Committee in the House has the pivotal responsibility of recommending spending levels for these important programs - possibly in the next few weeks.

Please send a letter on behalf of your organization/company that urges members of this subcommittee to support full funding for the Farm Bill’s clean energy provisions.  We have provided a sample letter, but it is important that you edit this letter with local information that describes why these programs are important to your state/region.  The letter will go to each subcommittee member, even those from states other than your own.  It is important, and appropriate, that they hear from organizations around the country given their central role in making appropriations decisions.
