The short explanation of this alert was:
Karma Samdrup, a prominent Tibetan businessman and environmentalist is being tried in a Chinese court for crimes he did not commit. According to media reports, Karma has suffered beatings and torture while in detention.

Chinese authorities are targeting Karma over his efforts to secure the release of his two brothers, both detained in August 2009 for their environmental advocacy work. Karma is also an avid environmentalist and founder of an award-winning environmental organization. Karma's trial marks an escalation in the Chinese government's repression against Tibetans with social or cultural influence, including intellectuals and entrepreneurs.

TAKE ACTION: Please send the letter below to Zhang Chunxian, Party-Secretary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region calling for the charges against Karma Samdrup to be immediately dropped. Your letter will also be sent to Wu Aiying, China's Minister of Justice in Beijing.
