Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Environmental Defense Action Network. The short explanation of this alert was: As officials in Washington increasingly shrink from the task of protecting the environment, states are taking the lead in passing new laws requiring the auto industry to clean up its act. In California, a new law passed last summer requires auto companies to begin reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the vehicles they sell. And Maine now requires auto companies to take responsibility for recovering toxic mercury components from their vehicles before they pollute that state's lakes, rivers and streams. However, automakers are fighting these new state laws, preferring to litigate rather than cleaning up their act. If you would like to view details on this alert, please visit here. |
