Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Students for a Free Tibet's Online Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was: On May 15th, Chinese police opened fire on unarmed Tibetans in Madang Township, Labrang County in Amdo, eastern Tibet (Ch: Xiahe, Gansu province) who were protesting pollution from a local cement factory. According to Tibetan sources, 15 people were taken to the hospital with gun shot wounds or injuries from police beatings. Tibetans in Madang have petitioned against the cement factory, which they say is spewing poisonous dust into the air, destroying farmland, and damaging religious sites in the area. This attack is part of a violent crackdown by Chinese authorities against Tibetans protesting the environmental destruction of their homeland. TAKE ACTION: Send the letter below calling on Chinese authorities to shut down the cement factory until the concerns of local Tibetans have been addressed.
