Take a moment to send a letter to stop the militarization of the University of Hawai'i. Hawai'i residents and UH faculty and students need your help to encourage the Board of Regents and the UH Administration to uphold the formal decisions that clearly oppose the proposed military classified research program known as a University Affiliated Research Center (U.A.R.C), at the University of Hawai'i Manoa.
University of Hawai'i administrators continue to push for a secret military research program, U.A.R.C., despite repeated votes strongly opposing this program from all major constituencies at UH Manoa and the broad community, including the UH Manoa Chancellor, the UH Manoa Faculty Senate, all of the UH student government bodies, the Kuali'i Council (Native Hawaiian faculty at UH), UH Faculty Union, and numerous community organizations. We need your help now to make it abundantly clear to the Board of Regents and to the president of UH that secret military research has no place at our public educational institution. We do not want our educational system to be conscripted to develop weapons of war. Please take a moment to send a letter the UH Board of Regents and let them know how you feel about secret military research taking over our public research agenda at UH On Friday, January 20, 2006, the UH Board of Regents will hold an "informational meeting" at 1:00 p.m. in the UH Manoa Campus Center Ballroom, with an opportunity for 3-minute public testimony on the proposed U.A.R.C. Please attend and testify if at all possible. Please also take a moment to send a letter voicing your opposition to the militarization of our university. Tel them UH is not the place to develop the weapons of war.
