Obama: Take Action on Tibet!

On September 14th, a high-level U.S. delegation sent by President Obama met with the Dalai Lama at his home in Dharamsala, India. The delegation was led by Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement, and Maria Otero, Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs (designated to serve concurrently as Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues).

In their meeting, the delegation reaffirmed the President's support for the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people and asked the Dalai Lama for his input on how the U.S. could assist in bringing about a resolution for Tibet. The high level delegation comes just weeks before the Dalai Lama visits Washington, D.C. However, a meeting between the Dalai Lama and President Obama will not take place until after the President'ss first official trip to China in November.
