The short explanation of this alert was:
Coal-fired power plants contaminate fish and wildlife with mercury, and because they are a leading contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, we all agree that we must generate green energy in Florida. The Hutchinson Island wind farm would be Florida’s first commercial-grade wind power generation facility. Without wind energy siting standards and lacking any statutory requirement for DEP to oversee the siting, this project seems able to move forward without addressing very real issues that other states require be resolved in the siting of their successful wind power facilities. We want this siting to be environmentally sensitive, culturally appropriate and safe. We are concerned that this project continues to overlook procedural and locational issues.
