CURYJ Media Careers Day

CURYJ is excited to host our first Careers Day, for our program participants and youth and young adults from the community to learn more about various career paths.

This first event will focus on careers in Media and Communications, with six speakers from across media roles (bios and inks to their work may be found below).

The event will begin with an introductory panel discussion followed by small group breakouts for participants to discuss career paths, ask questions and learn more about careers in media!

A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Panelists:

Justine Rose Armen, Executive Coordinator, ITVS and Independent Documentary Film Producer

Justine has worked in documentary for over 10 years, doing everything from writing and arts administration to working on set. She is passionate about working with artists who historically have been ignored or silenced.

Beatriz Castillo, Sr. Director, Engagement Operations, ITVS

Beatriz develops and oversees digital and on the ground engagement & impact strategies. She has over a decade of experience working in public media managing multimedia initiatives and projects, both domestically and internationally.

Nate Hernandez, Senior Creative Designer, Oracle

Nate grew up loving to doodle and make his own toys. Through that creative passion he has been blessed to build a career working on some of the biggest brands in the world from Google, CapitalOne, Nike, Food network and many more.

Myah Overstreet, Emerging Filmmaker

Myah is a filmmaker focusing on culture and social inequalities among marginalized communities. She was an associate producer on Black Mothers Love & Resist, and the forthcoming documentary film The Highest Standard, she also was a recent PA on Homeroom for Hulu and is graduating May 2023 with a master's degree in journalism from UC Berkeley.

Ashley Vaughn, Communications Manager, City & County of San Francisco (Behavioral Health Services)

Ashley is a creative marketing strategist with an appetite to drive systems change. She has over 10 years of experience orchestrating integrated marketing and communications campaigns for brands such as Planned Parenthood, Code for America, and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
