Can my environmental or population group become an Action Network partner?
We are always looking for new organizations to become Action Network partners.

What is Action Network's Privacy Policy?
Action Network is a hub of online environmental activism used by various environmental and population groups. Each partner group has its own privacy policy. Visit individual Action Network center pages to read each Action Network partners' privacy policy. Feel free to view Environmental Defense's General Action Network Privacy Policy.

Can I change my own contact information on Action Network?
Yes you can. To change your contact information, select the Action Network Partners you have signed up with, login with your e-mail address and password (we will send you your password if you forgot it) and from your workspace, click on "edit" to change your contact information or password, get information on your elected representatives, or see past campaigns in which you have participated.

Can I respond to alerts via e-mail AND the web?
Yes you can. When you receive an e-mail action alert, you can take action by either simply "replying to sender" in your e-mail or by clicking through the link in the e-mail to the web. If you respond via the web page, you will have the option of making your own edits to the letter.

Does it make a difference if I edit or personalize my letter before sending?
Yes it does. We STRONGLY encourage you to make edits directly to the sample letter provided in each campaign to put make points into your own words. An individualized letter is worth several form letters. Of course, hundreds of unedited letters also have a large impact, so please reply even if you don't have time to personalize the letter.

Why send faxes to decision makers instead of e-mails? Don't faxes waste paper?
That's a question that we get often. When a decision maker we target for an action alert has an e-mail address, we will most often use the e-mail option. However, our experience shows that many legislators and other types of decision makers either don't accept public comments by e-mail, or they are just not equipped to take e-mails into consideration. In Congress, for example, while many legislators do have e-mail addresses, many others still to this day do not have regular e-mail addresses. So, when we target Congress for alerts, we most often choose to use faxes.

When I send a letter to legislators via Action Network, does it go to my representative(s)?
Yes it does. For U.S. based users, Action Network automatically matches them to their own elected state and federal representatives, and state governors. Most legislators have made it very clear that they will only respond to citizen letters from their own constituents. When you take action on an alert, either on the web or in your e-mail, your letter will automatically be sent to your own elected representatives.

Can international users outside of the U.S. participate in Action Network?
Yes they can. Activists around the world sign up with Action Network. Many of our partners send action alerts focused on global environmental issues, or target international leaders. Keep in mind, Action Network does match U.S.-based users to their elected state and federal representatives, and to state governors. If an alert targets state or federal legislators, or state governors, those alerts are most often only open to U.S.-based users. However, if the target of an alert is not an elected official in the U.S., international users are usually free to participate.

Does Action Network use cookies?
Yes we do. Action Network writes a cookie to your browser to identify users once they log in. This allows you to navigate through Action Network without logging in for each individual page you view. The cookies we use are "session-based cookies," which means that they as soon as you close down your browser, we automatically log you out. Thus ensures that others cannot access your Action Network account while you are away from your computer.
