Stop the Execution of Brian Dorsey in Missouri

Governor Mike Parson

Brian Dorsey is scheduled for execution in Missouri on April 9, 2024 for the 2008 murders of Sarah and Ben Bonnie.

The Following has been lifted from Missourians to Abolish the Death Penalty's Petition for Brian:

  1. Brian has had zero disciplinary violations over 17 years – an unheard of accomplishment.
  2. Many MDOC Correctional Staff support clemency.
  3. Brian is innocent of capital murder and never should have been eligible for the death penalty because he was not capable of deliberation,
  4. Brian received ineffective assistance of counsel who were paid an extremely low flat fee to represent him and convinced him to plead guilty, which saved them considerable money, before doing any investigation into any possible defenses or completing a psychological evaluation.

In continuing to schedule executions, Missouri makes itself an outlier in its use of the death penalty. In fact, Missouri has been one of only a handful of states that has carried out executions in this decade.

The majority of other states are on a downward trend of executions, and increasingly, states are abolishing the practice altogether, including the southern state of Virginia, which repealed its death penalty law in 2021.

Please sign the petition asking Governor Mike Parson to do everything within his power to stop this execution, including issuing a stay, and seeking a path to clemency in the case.

Petitions will be delivered on your behalf in the days leading up to the execution.
