Join us in supporting No More Deaths by calling for an end to the policy of Prevention Through Deterrence. &nbsp;On June 21st, 2019, the longest day of the year and one of the deadliest for migrants crossing the Arizona desert, we will gather and demand an end to deaths in the desert.As you may know, <a href="http://forms.nomoredeaths.org/dailytrialupdates/">Dr. Scott Warren stood trial</a> in Tucson Federal Court last week for his humanitarian aid work. He is being charged with two counts of felony harboring and one count of conspiracy, for, according to Border Patrol charging documents, “providing food, water, clean clothes, and beds” to two migrants in his hometown of Ajo, AZ. The jury began deliberations last Friday and have not yet returned a verdict. Regardless of this verdict, the fact remains that thousands of individuals have died and disappeared in the West Desert of Arizona, including 89 just since Scott’s arrest in January, 2018. Concurrently, as reflected by Scott’s case, the nationwide escalation of attacks on the lives of undocumented people continues. Over 80,000 individuals are incarcerated in detention centers in this very moment and many more live with the threat of deportation daily. We are called in this historical moment to protect the fabric of our communities and defend human kindness. &nbsp;In response to this reality and a historical verdict, No More Deaths is calling on allied groups and communities around the country to join in a Day of Action on Friday, June 21st, the longest day of the year, and often one of the deadliest in the Arizona desert.
