Join Silicon Valley Debug, the Office of the State Public Defender, and the Ella Baker Center to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the historic California Racial Justice Act, passed in 2020 to confront racism in our courts, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 12-1:15 pm on Zoom.

Five years ago, we fought to pass the California Racial Justice Act (RJA), authored by Assemblymember Ash Kalra, affirming that discrimination based on race, ethnicity, or national origin harms both individuals and our criminal legal system. Since then, a coalition of advocacy organizations and directly impacted people helped pass AB 256 in 2022 and AB 1118 in 2023 to allow currently incarcerated people an equal opportunity to challenge racial bias post-conviction, no matter how long ago it was.

The RJA is already changing the culture of California courts to root out institutional racism. Help us celebrate the passage of the groundbreaking law, hear from advocates on RJA implementation, and look forward to what’s to come.
