Packaging Reduction: Lunch, Rally, & Grassroots Organizing Strategy Session

Start: Saturday, September 13, 202511:00 AM

Location:Westminster Church85 Chestnut Street, Albany, NY 12210 US

The Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (S1464/A1749) is a bill that phases out the largest source of plastic pollution: non-recyclable single-use packaging. It also bans toxic chemicals from packaging, makes big companies pay to clean up their trash, mandates equity in recycling access, protects environmental justice communities, and promotes green jobs.

The bill passed the state senate on May 28, 2025, but for the second year in a row did not come to a vote in the assembly despite having a majority of support. This was due to an intense pressure campaign by industry to sow doubt and misinformation about the bill. The good news: because the bill made it to third reading, assembly rules will allow it to go straight to the assembly floor for a vote when the legislature reconvenes.

Over the last several years, the grassroots have run a fantastic campaign, with hundreds of people and organizations engaged in the effort across the state. We need to send a clear message to the Assembly: we're not going away. We WILL pass the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act.

Join us for a day of grassroots organizing and strategy for how we can use the rest of 2025 to make sure PRRIA goes for a vote in January when the legislature reconvenes.
