A Just Transition for Philanthropy: Regenerative relationships between grantees & funders
Start: Wednesday, May 22, 2019• 1:00 PM
End: Wednesday, May 22, 2019• 3:00 PM
If a Just Transition for philanthropy means shifting philanthropic practices away from extraction and towards regeneration, what do regenerative relationships look like within a funder/grantee power dynamic?
As a follow up to State of the Movement 2019 and the launch of Resonance: A Framework for Philanthropic Transformation, Justice Funders, Solidaire Network and Thousand Currents are excited to co-host a gathering of our Bay Area philanthropic & movement community to dig deeper into grantmaking practices that accelerate a Just Transition for philanthropy.
In a series of paired conversations between social justice leaders and funders, we’ll explore how foundations can recognize extractive practices, overcome power dynamics, and build trusting & authentic relationships that support community self-determination and honor community expertise.
Speakers:
Deirdre Smith of BlackOUT Collective / Black Land and Liberation Initiative in conversation with Janis Rosheuvel of Solidaire Network
Eveline Shen of Forward Together in conversation with Dimple Abichandani of General Service Foundation
David Inocencio of The Beat Within in conversation with John Esterle of The Whitman Institute
Moderated by Vini Bhansali, Solidaire Network
