Join us on Wednesday the 10th of February at 19.00 GMT for the fifth in a series of 5 weekly Wednesday webinars. We, the Irish Chapter of World Beyond War, will interview a number of people who have been thinking about war. About who wins and who loses? How it is waged and financed. How it impacts the civilian populations of the world. How it contributes to human misery. Its effects on the environment. All of that and more. And how it doesn't have to be like this. The series will be on at 19.00-19.45 (GMT) and start on January the 13th and run for the following five Wednesdays concluding on February the 10th.
This week with Edward Horgan we will reflect on the assumption that militaries are the most appropriate Peacekeepers. When we think of militaries, we mostly think of war. The fact that militaries are also almost exclusively used as peacekeepers is something we should take time to question. We will be talking to Ed Horgan, a former Irish/United Nations peacekeeper, about the drawbacks (or possible advantages) of using militaries as peacekeepers and potential alternatives.
