This is a virtual event
As abolitionists, how do we understand the campus encampments and uprisings for Palestine, and especially the police repression of this movement across the country? Is the university a carceral institution, and, if so, what is an abolitionist perspective on higher education? Join us for the next DSA National Abolition WG study group. We will be talking about Abolition, Higher Education, and the University.
The reading group is open to anyone interested in political discussion and developing an analysis of these developments from an abolitionist and socialist perspective. We'll be discussing the following texts, and you can participate regardless of what you read/watch/listen to ahead of time
- "The Kids are Not Alright. They Want to Be Heard" by Keeanga-Yamatha Taylor
- "The Gaza Protests Were a Mask-Off Moment for American Universities" by Harry Zehner
- Optional: A selection from the Abolition University initiative, available here.
We'll be meeting virtually on Wednesday June 19 from 8-9 pm ET. It is open to anyone interested in political discussion and developing an analysis of these developments from an abolitionist and socialist perspective.
See you there!
