Do you know how ageism—prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination against people based on their age—shows up in your health, and in our health care systems?
  • Sometimes we do it to ourselves—thinking that we're not feeling well because we're "getting old", instead of seeking treatment for the underlying condition.
  • Often it happens in our interactions with providers: being talked down to, not respected and having our symptoms dismissed. One study showed that nearly one-third of older adults said they frequently experience age discrimination from doctors or hospitals.
  • And ageism shows up in our institutions and policies: fewer medical students becoming geriatricians, older people not included in clinical trials, and the pervasiveness of ageism during the pandemic.

Overwhelmingly, research shows that ageism leads to worse health outcomes, and higher costs to society.

The good news? There are things that we can do. Together!

Join us for a presentation and discussion about how ageism shows up in health care. We will will share details about the negative impacts of ageism on our health and how to become a proactive advocate for better healthcare experiences for yourselves and your loved ones.

The online workshop is hosted by Changing the Narrative, a campaign to change the way people think, talk and act about aging and ageism.

Register NOW to join this 90-minute workshop by filling out the form on this page. We'll send you Zoom log-in information 24 hours before the workshop.
