Civil Disobedience in a time of pandemic: Ashes on the Lawn
How does a movement decide what kind of action to take in the face of the climate crisis?

It is a hard job to work out which actions will hit the mark, and although XR has chosen nonviolent civil disobedience as a tactic, others  criticise this choice. At this session, we will look at three very different actions which helped achieve change during the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the United States. Each action employed different tactics to build the movement and appeal to the public and government agencies to take action on AIDS. What lessons can we learn about the value of civil disobedience from queer organizers, and the development of these actions, in our context?
Participants in this session will discuss the following podcast.  It provides an historical context and an overview of the actions for discussion, and includes some brilliant storytelling! Please listen before you come.
