Update: We'll be canvassing a number of buildings in the Columbia Heights area. We'll meet at the Columbia Heights Civic Plaza just a block north of the metro, as the farmers' market finished packing up.
Mayor Muriel Bowser's RENTAL Act would further decimate the rights guaranteed to Washingtonians by the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA), stripping these rights from huge swaths of tenants in both new developments and covenanted affordable housing throughout the District. The RENTAL Act also speeds up evictions, limits the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, allows slumlords to mass-serve eviction filings via email, and limits consumer protections relating to rental debts, among other attacks on tenants.
