THIS EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE ON SEPTEMBER 27th. For over five decades the fossil fuel industry knew the process of mining, refining, and burning fossil fuels was harmful to the future of our planet. Instead of working towards a cleaner, more renewable future, they buried the evidence and bought our politicians. During the 2016 presidential election cycle, the Koch brothers, made billionaires by the fossil fuel industry, spent as much money and exerted the same amount of influence as either major political party in order to elect politicians that would serve their interests. This September youth from around the globe are standing up for our future and demanding that politicians take real action to prevent the ever-increasing climate crisis. Climate scientists across the globe know and agree that we have no more than 11 years to radically change our energy infrastructure and economy to stop this crisis. If not, there will be catastrophic and irreversible consequences to humanity and all life on Earth. Already we are seeing waves of climate migrants, forced from their homeland made uninhabitable by floods, droughts, storms, and widespread crop loss. We are also seeing a drastic increase in climate related illnesses and death that are particularly impacting frontline communities. Last ye r, wildfires tore through California, Alaska, and even the Arctic Circle, while hurricanes ravaged Florida, Texas, and Puerto Rico. All of these are clear, tangible signs that things are getting worse, and will continue to do so until we make remedial change happen; we must act now. Early morning on Friday, September 27th, 2019, students across the county will walk out of their schools to raise awareness and press the urgency of the climate crisis. Later that day we will hold a wake for our generation. We will bring the urgency of the climate crisis to Lancaster County and empower our generation to take a stand and elect politicians that will enact policy to protect our planet. Our world, country, state, county, and city deserve better and we are ones that can make this happen. Join us a take a stand for our future!
