In observance of the 7th anniversary of "El Baguazo," or as we know it, The Bagua Massacre, and World Environment Day, June 5th, Trade Justice alliance looks back at the tragic event described as "the Amazon's Tiananmen Square,” with award-winning veteran human rights journalist, Bill Weinberg.

Mr. Weinberg will address how the US-Peru Free Trade Agreement led to the massacre at “Devil’s Curve,” and to indigenous people’s coordinated resistance throughout the Peruvian Amazon in response to free trade deals that have both trashed the environment and undermined native rights, and why the TPP is facing large protests in Peru. We will also hear from two Peruvian activists, Wendy Stephany, Peruvian Schoolteacher, poet, artist, and activist, and Macarena Arias, from Lima, organizing for social and environmental justice in Peru.
