Big Green Swap

Start: Sunday, May 15, 202212:00 PM

End: Sunday, May 15, 2022 3:00 PM

Our big Green Swap is a chance to exchange, give or take adult and childrens clothes and shoes, toys, baby stuff and craft materials. It's also an opportunity to learn simple cothing repair.

How will the Big Green Swap work? Bring items/clothes with you to swap that you no longer use and/or take away items/clothes you feel you will make good use of. The event is free and you don’t have to bring things in order to take some away. Our basic guidelines for the day are:
  • take what you’ll use
  • leave stuff for others
  • give things you would want to have
  • make a donation if you want to
  • please don’t come if you have Covid.
  • Please don't come to this event by car. The St Matthews Centre is in a residential area with almost no parking. It is however very close to bus stops for 3 bus services and only 10 minutes walk from the bus stations in the City Centre.

Why swap? People across the world are suffering from worsening floods, droughts, wild fires, hurricanes, sea level rise, typhoons, mud slides and climate related diseases such as dengue fever. Scientists say these are the result of climate change which is being caused by humans, and that we in the West are the biggest contributors to climate change because we have such high carbon footprints. In other words because of how we live.

Climate Action is organising this Big Green Swap because we want to promote looking after, rewearing and sharing stuff we already have rather than buying new. This means we can buy less and throw away less, reducing our contribution to climate change, and reducing the human and environmental negative impacts of fast fashion. We also want to build community and links between people so we can live better and support each other to face climate change.
