Ever wondered who actually makes decisions about your child’s school—and how you can have a say? Join us for BOE 101, an interactive workshop designed to help parents understand how your local Board of Education works and why it matters for your child’s education.
A Board of Education (also known as a school board) is the governing body of a public school district, responsible for setting policies, overseeing budgets, and making key decisions that shape students’ day-to-day experiences. From curriculum choices to hiring the superintendent, these elected leaders have a major influence on the quality of education your child receives.
In this session, we’ll break it all down in clear, accessible terms—no prior knowledge needed. You’ll learn:
- What the Board of Education does (and doesn’t do)
- How decisions are made—and who influences them
- How school board policies impact your child’s classroom experience
- Ways parents can show up, speak out, and drive change
- What to know about school board elections and why your vote matters
This workshop is especially geared toward parents who want to move from being informed to being impactful. Whether you’re new to public schools or ready to take your advocacy to the next level, BOE 101 will give you the tools and confidence to engage.
Come ready to learn, ask questions, and take your first (or next) step in shaping your child’s education.
