This is a virtual event

Metro DC DSA is hosting three open forums for members who would prefer to orally deliver their thoughts on the bylaws - these will be recorded and posted in the Slack channel afterwards.

We are coming up to the chapter convention this December and the Bylaws Reform Commission established by Steering (as part of our program) is working hard to make comprehensive proposals that will make the chapter a real fighting force in the new year, when we will be living in a city with hopefully 2 DSA members on the DC Council and State Board of Education, and a new presidential term.We want to hear from all of you about your thoughts on how our chapter's bylaws affect your work, and how you think they could be improved to ensure that we are a more effective and democratic organization. We have created a public channel (#bylaws-reform) in the Slack for people to make written submissions - we are asking that the original submissions be submitted in pdf or doc format, and that authors try to reply to questions from commission members and other members of the chapter in the replies to their doc in the Slack. We will be taking submissions until October 1.We will also be hosting three open forums for members who would prefer to orally deliver their thoughts on the bylaws - these will be recorded and posted in the Slack channel afterwards. They will be held at the following times:

  • This Thursday, September 24th, at 7pm
  • This Saturday, September 26th, at 1pm
  • Wednesday the week after, September 30th, at 7pm
If presenters want to simply deliver remarks, they can - or they can volunteer to answer questions from present members of the commission as well. We are looking to hear from as many people as possible, so please try to come along! We are allotting an hour for each forum. We hope to read or hear your thoughts soon, and we hope to present a report in October that everyone will have ample time to read through and consider before the chapter convention. Again, if you want to join the channel where submissions and forum recordings will be posted, it is #bylaws-reform.
