This is a preview event for the 2021 YDSA Winter Conference - A Better World is Possible.

Biden has the power to cancel ALL student debt with a stroke of his pen, but he won't do it without a movement to force his hand. Join us on Friday, February 5 at 8PM ET for a panel on how YDSA and other organizations are building that movement on campuses and in communities across the country.

Panelists:

Astra Taylor is a writer, filmmaker, and author. She is a co-founder of the Debt Collective and just released the short documentary “You Are Not A Loan” about the fight to transform higher education in collaboration with the Intercept.

Emmaline Bennett is a history teacher and a student in the Social Studies Education program at Columbia Teachers College. She is a member of the YDSA National Coordinating Committee and co-chair of the National Political Education Committee. She is also co-chair of Columbia YDSA and one of the organizers of the tuition strike.

Luke Herrine is a DSA member who is currently a PhD Candidate at Yale Law School and Managing Editor of the Law and Political Economy Blog. He is a co-founder of the Debt Collective and developed the legal arguments that debt cancellation is possible without further Congressional action.

Melezia Figueroa is the National Coordinator for the Cancel Student Debt Campaign. She is a PhD Candidate in Geography at UC Berkeley, and a faculty-owner of the Cooperative New School for Urban Studies and Environmental Justice. She has been a longtime political journalist, educator and organizer involved in a wide range of movements for social & environmental justice.
