Keynote Speaker:

Linda Sarsour is an author, award-winning racial justice and civil rights activist, seasoned community organizer and mother of three. Ambitious, outspoken and independent, Linda shatters stereotypes of Muslim women while also treasuring her religious and ethnic heritage.

She is a Palestinian Muslim American and a self-proclaimed “pure New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn.



Entertainment:

Amer Zahr is an Arab-American comedian, speaker, writer, academic and adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Growing up as a child of Palestinian refugees, he draws on his experiences preforming and lecturing on topics like politics, Islam, society, and growing up Arab.  One of his many accomplishments is his production of the first-ever “1001 Laughs Ramallah Comedy Festival”, which is a production in Palestine that featured 10 comedians and had seven shows in August of 2015. This festival was a hit as it entertained over 2,000 locals! Amer has performed all throughout North America, Canada, Europe and the Arab World.


Guest Speakers:

Lara Kiswani is from Beit Iksa and Aqir, Palestine, and was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been active in movements against war, for Palestinian self-determination, and Third World solidarity for the last 20 years. She is a faculty member at San Francisco State University in the College of Ethnic Studies, and the executive director of the Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC). She recently led the 'Save Arab American Studies' campaign, which seeks to put Arab American Studies—including Palestine—back within the Asian American Studies section of the Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum.

Dave Serio, a third-generation Arab American from Lebanon, is an Education and Public Programming Specialist at the Arab American National Museum (AANM). He holds a M.A. in Near Eastern Studies and Arabic from Wayne State University. As an Educator and Public Programmer, Mr. Serio conducts educational presentations and workshops both in-person and online. Mr. Serio also helps in the planning and implementation of youth programs and cultural events, such as the SURA Arts Academy, a youth photography program.
