As our state and country are challenged by profound political and social division, supporting our students and children to become civically engaged champions of the common good is essential to the health of our democracy. Join us to explore:

  • how social and emotional competencies are foundational to participating productively and empathetically in our democracy;
  • approaches to fostering a passion for service to one’s community in our young learners, and;
  • deepening understanding of the responsibilities and opportunities of citizenship and civic participation in our older students.

Our expert speakers from Facing History and Ourselves and Seeds of Caring will share guiding principles and turnkey strategies for supporting students to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to be positive agents of change. This learning event is for all educators, changemakers and parents/caregivers interested in embedding caring for others, service, and democratic participation in their SEL work across all learning contexts.

Speakers:

  • Brandy Jemczura M.S.W L.S.W, Founder and Executive Director, Seeds of Caring
  • Laura Tavares M.A., Program Director, Organizational Learning and Thought Leadership Facing History and Ourselves
  • Co-hosted by Jennifer Smith Miller and Pamela McVeagh-Lally, SEL for Ohio co-founders
