Constituent Town Hall for Representative John Rutherford

Start: Thursday, February 23, 201712:00 PM

The week of February 18–26 is the first congressional recess of the 115th Congress and, for many of us, the first opportunity as constituents to speak directly with our members of Congress. This is the perfect time to ask the questions that we, as constituents, deserve answers to and to demonstrate, in no uncertain terms, that tolerance of Trump's hateful agenda is unacceptable and politically toxic. That's why we're declaring this congressional recess "Resistance Recess: Save Our Healthcare, Our Communities, and Our Democracy." After many calls to his Jacksonville and DC offices asking Congressman Rutherford to hold a town hall event to hear from constituents during the recess week, the congressman's staff informed us on Friday Feb 17th that they will not be holding a town hall. A staffer cited Congressman Rutherford's health issues as a main reason for this decision (he collapsed on the house floor the day after his swearing in on January 3rd, after which he spent a week in the hospital. While sympathetic of these unforseeable health issues, we as constituents need to be able to access our elected representative. As Congressman Rutherford will not be holding a town hall, we will bring the town hall to him. We will gather for a constituent-run town hall outside of his district office on Feb 23rd from 12pm-2 pm. This time was chosen to fit with the hours of operation of the office and to align with people's lunch breaks so as many people as possible can attend. We will provide a forum for our questions, even if the Congressman, while invited, does not attend. We will be Facebook live streaming the event and submitting all questions, in writing, to the congressman's staff after the event if he does not make an appearance. Please join us.
