This is a virtual event

Please join the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence and DAWN for an advanced training on providing extensive care to ensure Deaf survivors’ safety . This event will discuss the safety needs and considerations of Deaf survivors of domestic violence (both in and out of a shelter context), and will provide advocates with tools for working with Deaf survivors in their programs and community. The 3-hour workshop will be led by Imonie Gwaltney, and is designed for advocates and service providers working to empower survivors and their families in DC. The training will be conducted primarily in ASL and spoken English, and additional interpretation is available upon request by emailing lbrotsky@dccadv.org.

About our facilitator:

Imonie Gwaltney is the Resiliency Education Coordinator at DAWN. DAWN is a trauma-informed, culturally responsive and transformative justice-based agency to provide multi-faced services to survivors and the community: to understand and address power-based violence by providing direct services and education. As DAWN’s mission is to promote healthy relationships and reduce abuse in the Deaf community of the Washington DC area, we emphasize that all forms of violence are intersectional. We work with survivors who have many identities and these varieties of identities decrease their right to their own safety and autonomy.
