Discussion #2: Metro DC DSA's Recommendation Criteria for Electoral Endorsements

This is the second of two events for Metro DC DSA chapter members to discuss how our chapter's Political Engagement Committee (PEC) will recommend electoral candidates for endorsement.* This event is hosted by the chapter's Political Engagement Committee and will be facilitated by PEC members Irene K and Paola S.

The purpose of this event will be for chapter members to ask questions and offer suggestions about the criteria that the PEC will use to recommend that chapter members vote for or against endorsing an electoral candidate. As stipulated by the chapter's bylaws (which were approved by chapter members at our last local convention), the PEC is responsible for issuing recommendations about candidate endorsements. The decision to endorse or not endorse candidates still depends on a two-thirds vote of all members in the Metro D.C. DSA chapter.

Please see a rough agenda for this event below:

  1. Meeting opening and goals

  2. Review of current bylaws and PEC endorsement recommendation role

  3. Discussion on possible endorsement recommendation criteria

  4. Meeting closing and next steps

This agenda is subject to change prior to the event, so please check on the latest version of the agenda here.

This is a 90-minute long meeting, so there will be plenty of time for discussion, interaction, and planning among chapter members who attend. Please come with lots of ideas!

As PEC members work to develop criteria for endorsement recommendations , we will do our best to incorporate as much input from live discussions and this form (for members who can’t attend) as possible.

If you have questions, please email steering-all@mdcdsa.org or post in the #steering channel on the chapter’s Slack.

In Solidarity,

The Political Engagement Committee

Metro DC DSA

*The reason there are two events is to offer multiple times for chapter members to attend. The events will be identical, but you can attend both if you'd like!
