Dunedin ACC Action

Start: Friday, July 16, 2021 7:45 AM

End: Friday, July 16, 2021 9:00 AM

Come along to our action at the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) Office to join our call for ACC to go fossil free! Our action on the 16th of July will involve us “freezing” on the walkway to symbolize that we are still waiting for ACC to announce that they divest in a robust, transparent, and timely manner. We want to ask ACC how much longer we will need to wait before they live up to their values of being good stewards of our public funds by fully divesting from the coal, oil and gas industry. Will you join us?

When: Friday 16th July, 8.00 am, meet us at 7.45 am for a briefing
Where: We will meet outside the ACC office inside of the Otago House on Moray Place. Our Action will take place outside so dress warmly.

This action is part of 350 Aotearoa's ACC Go Fossil Free campaign. Last year our 350 Aotearoa community launched a campaign calling for ACC to manage our public funds for public good and divest from the fossil fuel industry that is driving the climate crisis. We’ve played an important role in 350 Dunedin, by organising actions, writing letters, putting up posters, raising awareness and keeping the pressure on ACC online. Thank you for your role in our shared campaign so far!

The government has responded to our campaign! The Minister of Finance Hon Grant Robertson supported our call for ACC to divest in his annual letter of expectation to ACC’s Board members. You can read more about this exciting progress in our press release.

While this is a reason for celebration, we still have an important role to play in ensuring that ACC commits to divest from all coal, oil, and gas companies in a robust, transparent, and timely manner. We still need a commitment from ACC to divest from fossil fuels, so we're building the pressure on ACC and calling or the Board to announce its plans to divest from fossil fuels by 31 July 2021.

We’d love for you to a part of our action! You will be briefed when turning up at the action so you can take part in the freezing performance. If possible, it would be great if you could wear something black or navy coloured.
