Earth Day Ithaca and March for Climate, Jobs & Justice

Start: Saturday, April 29, 201711:30 AM

End: Saturday, April 29, 2017 1:00 PM

Sustainable Tompkins will be hosting this year's Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 29. We'll be gathering for our local March for Climate, Jobs and Justice in solidarity with the Peoples Climate Movement marches in Washington DC and around the country. The plan is to gather at 11:30 on The Commons and march down to The Space @ GreenStar where we'll be hosting a rally followed by workshops and music and a chance to check out local organizations working to protect our climate and shared future.

The day’s events will kick off with an open space event at 10 a.m. facilitated by Joey Gates and Cathleen Banford, exploring the question of, “What are your barriers to living an environmentally sustainable life?”

Workshops will start at 2:30 with Gerald Torres, National Earth Day Network board chair and Cornell law professor. Professor Torres will lead a discussion on law and social movements, and how our concerns transform into law and policy.

At 3:30 we will once again host the annual People’s Choice ‘Signs of Sustainability’ Awards, highlighting the great works being done by our fellow community members. At 4:00 we will hear Voices from the Community offering perspectives we don’t always get to hear talking about sustainability. Wrapping up the day, in our Earth Day tradition, will be the One Heart Community Drum Circle.
