Join Pacific Environment's Ports for People campaign for an Earth Month Day of Advocacy at the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners!

On Wednesday, April 19, we will be meeting at Long Beach Civic Center at 1:15 p.m. PST to make public comment at the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners meeting about ending land use designations and permitting for the development of any new, renewed or expanded fossil fuel production and bunkering facilities on Port of Long Beach property in the pending Port Master Plan Update (PMPU). Please RSVP in advance by filling out this form so we can share talking points with you.

Pacific Environment works to protect communities around the Pacific Rim, including in Long Beach, CA, where the Port of Long Beach — one of the largest and busiest ports in the U.S. — creates port and ship pollution that harms human health and the climate.

Our Ports for People campaign helps build a cleaner, more sustainable future for Long Beach by engaging port leaders to eliminate fossil fuels from the Port of Long Beach and advance a clean ocean shipping future instead.

That’s why this Earth Month April 2023, we’re excited to call on our port leaders to take bold climate action in their pending Port Master Plan Update to end land use designations and permitting for the development of any new, renewed or expanded fossil fuel production and bunkering facilities.

The Port Master Plan Update is a once-in-twenty-years document that guides port land use planning for the coming decades. Given our present climate emergency, as affirmed recently by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's AR6 Synthesis Report: Climate Change 2023, which warns that global emissions must peak before 2025 to keep global warming under 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit), our port leaders must use the pending PMPU to accelerate zero-emission ambitions. Join us to urge our public officials to demonstrate the climate leadership we need.

Talking points will be emailed to all those who RSVP'd, and physical copies will provided during the day of.
