New York Governor Cuomo recently nominated Madeline Singas, a notoriously tough-on-crime prosecutor who spent her career at the Queens DA office that withheld exculpatory evidence and who has personally written about wanting to water down NY's new (and needed) bail and discovery reforms.
NY organizers are concerned that Singas' long and harsh record as a prosecutor threatens hard-won progress on criminal legal reform. But Cuomo's nominees are rarely (never?) voted down by the state senate, and the (Democratic) State Senate leadership is preparing for a confirmation vote tomorrow — unless we mount enough opposition pressure.
